Wildlife Alliance
On the ground wildlife protection
The Wildlife Alliance is a conservation NGO providing direct protection of forests and wildlife in Cambodia. They are on the front line to combat the illegal wildlife trade to prevent future pandemics and save Endangered species. Your support is invaluable in helping the Wildlife Alliance to continue its critical work in Cambodia.
In partnership with the Cambodian government, the Wildlife Alliance operates the Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team (WRRT) as an anti-trafficking law enforcement unit to crack down on the illegal wildlife trade. The first of its kind in Asia, the team operates country-wide, 24/7. The team is trained to provide rescued wildlife a preliminary health-check. Animals deemed suitable are immediately released into appropriate habitat. Animals that are too young or injured to be released are taken to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center for rehabilitation and later released or provided a permanent home.
What is a snare?
Snares are the principle hunting method used throughout South-East Asia. They are simple traps made of wire or rope, hidden on the forest floor or suspended from a tree. The traps are designed to ensnare the leg or neck of passing animals. As the animal struggles to escape, the noose becomes tighter.
Why are they a problem?
Thousands of snares blanket the forest floor and are often unchecked by hunters. This cruel and wasteful method of hunting indiscriminately traps animals - including rare and endangered species, many of which die slow painful deaths.
How can I help?
Each and every day Wildlife Alliance rangers patrol the forests, fighting to protect our wildlife. Since 2001 the Wildlife Alliance has removed over 225,000 snares, all potential killers! Removed snares are made into bracelets by their staff. Each of these hand-crafted bracelets represents a life saved. Buy a bracelet to save a life and ensure this vital work continues.
